Slovak Wood Type with Diacritics
In April of this year we were contacted by Pressink, The Žurnál, located in Slovakia, for a custom wood type project. Pressink is a studio dedicated to graphic design and letterpress printing. They work with wooden and lead typefaces and try to connect analog technology with digital.
The project consisted in the manufacture of custom wood type after vector file for scheme 2A and 6a, size 8 cicero, with the standard European height of 23.56 mm.
The design part belongs to Ondrej Job and the typeface is called: The Font by madebythe:
The peculiarity of this project was that the Slovak spelling contains small modifications that include the four diacritics (ˇ, ´, ¨, ˆ) placed above certain letters (a-á, ä; c-č; d-ď; dz-dž; e-é; i-í; l-ľ, ĺ; n-ň; o-ó, ô; r-ŕ; s -š; t-ť; u-ú; y-ý; z-ž).
These small spelling marks have been cut off from the wood type letters with the possibility of being added or removed depending on the spelling need.
We would like to thank the initiators of this project: Kristína Uhráková and Ivan Zatko.
