Chikki Typeface – Devanagari System
At the beginning of the year we made two sets of wood type for the type designers Kimya Gandhi and Rob Keller from Mota Italic. Their type design creations are unique.
The first set of wood type was made 8 line size (33,8 mm) American type height 0.918″ Alphabet Scheme for the typefaces “Chikki”; that reinterprets the Devanagari writing system which is part of the Brahmic family and represents the languages of India: Sanskrit, Hindi, Nepali, etc. discovered in ancient India from the 1st century.
The second typeface we made is “Pufff”, at 10 line size (42,2 mm) American type height 0.918″ Alphabet Scheme; which was recently named the heavy weight champion of fonts, and received very good reviews from Frank Grießhammer – typeface designer, from Typographica’s Best Fonts of 2014: ” I think that Pufff might not work very well on traffic signs, but is perfect pretty much anywhere else. Designers of book covers, handbills, and posters for advertising acid house parties, or of food and lifestyle magazines, will delight over the bold letter shapes of Pufff.”
